Pope Francis to visit South Korea in August

Exciting and somewhat surprising news came from Rome this morning.

It was announced by the Vatican Press Office that Pope Francis–who is on retreat with his collaborators in the Roma Curia–will be visiting South Korea from August 14-18 this year to take part in an Asian youth gathering.

The pope  just gave the red hat to Cardinal Andrew Yeom Soo-Jung, the current Archbishop of Seoul.

It was reported that the Pope told Soo-Jung, “I love Korea.” The cardinal in reply said: “The Korean people love you, Holy Father!”

Let’s pray Francis can bring Christ’s message of peace, reconciliation and justice to a peninsula always threatened by potential war and violence.
